The Tasting Room

DeBarge Winery is the first and only urban winery in Chattanooga. The winery operates within a historic brick building on Rossville Ave., behind the Main Street Fire Station 1. This 1910 building, nestled in the heart of the up-and-coming Southside district of Chattanooga, was on the brink of disrepair. Revived after 26 years of abandonment, DeBarge Winery was born. Like Southside itself, DeBarge Winery aims to breath new life to the area, and add to the already growing community by developing the local wine community and showcasing other local craftsman and artisans along the way. Within walking distance of the many other shops, art galleries and restaurants of this neighborhood, it makes the perfect addition.

To preserve the soul of the original location, DeBarge Winery utilized the abandoned building that once served as a grocery store, auto parts store and storefront. The building’s first floor, whose upper floors were used as a Masonic lodge, was gutted and built out. The winery is divided into four individual parts – the tasting room, the processing area, the barrel room and the event space. The tasting room with its wine barrel-inspire bar marries art and function. We used original materials to reconstruct the look of an oak barrel used to condition wine. Barrel staves on the façade from the original heart pine were repurposed for the bar top. Designed by Brooke King, Aaron Cabeen (Cabeen Originals) and steel maestro Steve Morse (Morse Metalworks) pulled off the vision. The barrel bar now stands as the focal point of the room and its craftsmanship is something to be admired. The room was finished with custom-made wine racks that line the original brick walls. The sleek, black racks give the room pleasing visual patterns of elegance, sophistication and charm. DeBarge Winery isn’t just about making exceptional wine, it is about the experience.

The tasting bar is structured as a complimentary part of the winery. As wines cycle through and new vintages and varietals are bottled, we encourage patrons to come taste these new wines as they become available. Compare the wines back to back or choose just one to taste before you buy it. When you’ve made your choice, we sell our wines by the bottle within the tasting room. Enjoy with friends in the outdoor gazebo behind the building or in our wine lounge located in our events center. Within the tasting bar, we also sell local artisan products such as cheese from Sequatchie Cove, Niedlov’s bread and Benton’s cured meats.
